Menopause is having a cultural moment.

It’s showing up more in the media, among celebrities and influencers, and at the center of conversations among friends. And for many, it’s liberating to be able to name something that our mothers and grandmothers only spoke about in hushed tones and euphemisms. But as we move forward toward more transparency and better care and quality of life, we need to make sure to leave no one behind.

We need to talk about menopause in the nonprofit conversation space because it is a health equity issue, both in the disparities we must address and in how we go about it.

Author’s Note:

This offering is for everyone but will likely be most useful for others like me — white, cis-het women — who may need to broaden our awareness. Where I may have overstepped or misspoken, I welcome loving corrections.

I’m also not a menopause expert. I just write about things that interest me — often topics that offer lenses for how we might do better for ourselves and for one another.
